Season six of The Masked Singer came to a close with last night's finale. The Queen of Hearts came out on top, and the reveal showed the winner to be Alaskan sweetheart Jewel. Singer and choreographer Todrick Hall followed as runner up. Before the finalists went head to head, third place was revealed and Banana Split was finally unmasked for the judges and audiences after a valiant effort toward the winning spot.
If you haven't been keeping up with The Masked Singer as of late, you should know the anonymous singing competition show has recently expanded to allow duos and groups of masked contestants compete together. Last season, Hanson was on the show as the Russian Dolls and Clint Black and Lisa Hartman were revealed as the Snow Owls. This season, a duo hid under the costume of Banana Split, with one dressed as ice cream scoops and the other as a banana.
After performing "A Million Dreams" by Pink and "Cry Me A River" by Michael Bublé, votes were cast and Banana Split came up short before the final. Judges Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, and Nicole Scherzinger made their final remarks and revisited their first impression guesses before the duo was unmasked. Robin Thicke guessed Ryan Tedder and Leona Lewis, and the other three guessed musical couple Katherine McPhee and David Foster.
Ultimately, Banana Split indeed turned out to be Katharine McPhee and David Foster. Following the end of their run on the show, Katharine spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the experience, and even called out Robin for his incorrect guess.
"I think he knew exactly who we were. He wanted to do some good old-fashioned TV acting and not make it such a home run for all the judges,” she told the outlet. “So I think he knew. There's no way he wouldn't know who David is. He would just know the way David's mannerisms were. David was best friends with his dad.” Until next time, singers!
